We can list and expand on ideas for the class presentation here.
1, I started a powerpoint presentation that we can use when we present that goes through the background of s-b r: that it starts with feedback, then assessment, grading, and breaks down to s-b r and some more basic information. I uploaded it and you can look under the "files" tab. It might be the first revision, and not my second revision after working on it some more. It has ideas embedded on it that I still need to work out.
2. found a lawsuit that a 16 or 17 year old girl filed on her school because she turned in an assignment a day late and that it would ruin her 4.5 GPA; complaint argued that it wasn't measure of her learning, etc. Kind of cool to show the real complaint to the class and generate discussion. What if this was you??
3. I embedded one of Cade's videos and the Xtranormal video into the ppt.
4. You might want to check out a wiki...www.ospigrading.pbworks.com; has good stuff in it.
5. I have an activity from Marzano's book that has 5 grading scenarios that we can have the class do. We can also have them compute the grades for a standards-based system as if they had to report to a traditional omnibus grading system. ???
6. Also found a site that I embedded into ppt that shows dozens of sample report based cards from different school systems. I found out that my school district doesn't quite do standards-based the way it is described in the text and it is not a part of the Pinnacle gradebook system. They put their scores on paper, then someone enters the scores for them. The standards are not loaded into our Pinnacle system--we are a few years away from this, i guess.
7. Maybe ya'll can work on more research related to the instructional strategy, an article or articles that the class can jigsaw??. I'm going to work on assessment with Bloom's.
